storyteller, collaborator & activist

(they/them/he)

Jay Kuhns (they/them/he) is a fat genderqueer theatre artist & activist from Southern California (currently residing in Ashland, OR) dedicated to helping create spaces that support and uplift Queer, Trans, and BIPOC artists.

An enthusiastic and deft right hand, Jay is a collaborator who uses their nearly ten years of multidisciplinary experience and knowledge to facilitate and implement a vision, and intuitively collect loose ends. Whether choreographing and executing quick changes with precision and glee or taking the stage, they are able to see the big picture while seeing to the details that allow leadership to lead, and relish being a vivacious and supportive cheerleader for the team and their collective goals.

Because they wear and have worn so many hats, Jay holds having a holistic view of production in extremely high regard, and believes that every single person who has a hand in the telling of a story, from inception to strike, is a vital and valued team member and deserves to be treated accordingly - especially those who have been historically excluded or undervalued.

Jay is a proud founding member of the Joy-Jackson Initiative, and lovingly considers The Commons Collective in Los Angeles their artistic home.
